When it comes to buying a new washing machine, one of the hardest decisions to make is whether to choose a front-load vs a top-load unit. While front loaders tend to be more energy and water-efficient than top loaders as they can wash larger loads, they are notorious for harboring mold in their door.
The tightly sealed rubber gasket on the inside of the door combined with moisture and an accumulation of dirt, allows mold to grow inside the lip of the door. So if you have a front loader, make sure you clean it thoroughly and often. A good clean with vinegar will assist in preventing mold growth and keep your washing machine from developing a musty odor.
